About Luna Energy Adventures

One day a switch flipped, and I realized that I wasn’t living in alignment with my core values – that I was just running in a hamster wheel. I was depressed and relied on extreme exercise every day regardless of the weather (mainly running after a frisbee while playing Ultimate), in order for my body to produce the endorphins I needed to feel alive and excited.  I’d been taught to do whatever I could to stay positive, to be productive, and exhibit happiness.  I didn’t know buried emotions were weighing me down.   I didn’t know how I was really meant to live, or what to do, or where to go, but once I was aware, I had no choice but to change my life.  I knew that I loved nature and being outdoors, and that I was passionate about caring for Mother Earth and had gotten my degree to have skills to help reduce climate change.  So, I chose change, and Luna showed up needing a home and ready to show me how to reclaim my independence and relearn how to live my life through playful exploration and curiosity.  She was a 55-pound black and white husky with an alpha wolf spirit who would never let anyone or anything keep her from being herself!

So, with a commitment to create a happier life for both of us, step by step I transitioned toward a life in the mountains, doing work aligned with my values to protect and preserve nature, creating my own work schedule, developing new friendships and living a playful life connecting with the Earth every day.  It hasn’t been easy. At first, I resented my history and that it took until I was 30 for me to branch out to find myself.  I expected the transition to happen more quickly, be easier, and simply be a matter of going somewhere else to do something else.  Taking the steps to land in the San Juan mountains and working to address climate change was indeed a huge part of it… I was finally living in alignment with my values… but wherever I went, there I was, with the same emotional baggage that I’d always been running from.

I tried dating my way to happiness, losing myself in codependent or avoidant roller-coaster relationships and not understanding why they kept ending, but learning the messy way of trying and exploring.  I tried working my way to less loneliness… there’s plenty of work to do in sustainability and climate change after all, and my work is rewarding.  I continued being an athlete, this time shifting to filling my free time with all the outdoor adventures possible – mountain biking, trail running, skiing, kayaking, surfing, sailing, etc.  All of these pursuits were steps along the way toward creating the life that felt true to me.  

I also learned to go inward.  To explore what was really happening inside.  I learned tools from yoga, therapy, coaching, journaling and multiple consciousness and healing modalities.  And through it all, when “the bad, sad and ugly” emotions would take over and force their way through, I brought my inward bag of tools out with me into nature to process, sort and heal.  When the last, biggest hardest heartbreak hit, Echo had just joined my life - a beautiful red-headed husky with freckles on her nose and a sweet playful nature, who needed me to dig deep, get up every morning to take her outside to play, make friends, and spend time nurturing ourselves in the forest.

Over this 20+ year journey I have been learning to uncover and heal wounds from my past, appreciate and draw on the foundation I grew up on, and unlock the societal programming that made it difficult to live from true choice and awareness of what was best for me and the Earth on a day-to-day, minute-by-minute basis.  This is still my ongoing journey, and I now offer my own mix of magic from this bag of tools, bringing them forth to invite others to live fully, deeply and light-hearted, through playful exploration and communion with the Earth.
